Umar Mohammed, the leader of Ruga village in the Shagari local government area of Sokoto State, has been detained by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly engaging in an unlawful drug transaction.
Mr. Adamu Iro, the state’s NDLEA commander, confirmed the news to press on Tuesday in Sokoto and said the suspect was detained as a result of an intelligence-driven investigation.
The suspect had been listed as wanted by the command for some time, he added.
Iro said: “Earlier, we arrested his wife in possession of a large number of illicit drugs, but we released her following an investigation that the items belonged to the husband.
“So, Alhamdulillah, on Monday, we were able to nab him and we found 436.381 kg of Cannabis Sativa and 1 kg of Diazepam at his residence.”
