Nigerians in U.S to hold debate for presidential candidates

by Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr

Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN, Inc.) has approved plans for Diaspora Nigerians in the United States to host a presidential candidate debate in the run-up to the 2023 election.

According to a statement made on Sunday by Olayinka DanSalami, spokesman for the OAN, the presidential discussion dubbed “The Diaspora Listens” is set to take place online on November 26.
All of the presidential contenders, according to Dan Salami, have been invited to the discussion, which is being organised by 15 additional Nigerian partner organisations in the US.

“Among all countries in the world, the United States is home to the most Nigerian people and groups. Despite the disparities in their cultures and languages, they are essential to the political and socioeconomic development of our beloved country. DanSalami

“We are also continuing to fly the Nigerian flag high as we excelled in our various endeavours.

Therefore, we think that everyone needs to do their part in order to create the Nigeria of our dreams. We think that the 2023 presidential election is significant and important since it has attracted so much interest, fervour, and support from Nigerians living abroad.

“The 2023 election has brought about a patriotic clamour by Nigerians in the diaspora to have the presidential candidates talk to us,” he said.

On why the debate is necessary at this time, DanSalami said it would help keep Nigerians in the diaspora abreast of the candidates’ manifestos while ensuring that Nigerians outside the country have an opportunity to hear first-hand from the presidential candidates, their intentions and aspirations.

“The ‘Diaspora Listens’ event would also allow candidates to hear directly from the diaspora constituents about their concerns, priorities, and what they would like from the president when elected in 2023.

“The organisers encourage all our Nigerians in the diaspora to ‘save the date’ for this crucial and important event,” he added.
