Northern elders outline three possible outcomes from a Tinubu-Shettima ticket

Northern Elders have enumerated three things that are likely to happen as a result of Bola Tinubu’s selection of Kashim Shettima as his running partner yesterday in Daura, Katsina State.

NEF spokesperson Hakeem Baba-Ahmed pondered in a tweet on Monday whether political officials’ religious beliefs had any bearing on how they ran the country.
He pointed out that in the general elections of 2023, the ticket might lead Christians to reject the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC).

He continued by saying that, on the other hand, the decision might inspire Muslims to cast forcefully pro-ruling party ballots.

“Now that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decided on Muslim-Muslim three things are possible—

1. All Christians will walk away from his ticket.

2. All Muslims will line up behind his ticket.

3. It will not make any difference to his electoral fortunes.

Are the faiths of our leaders that important to how they lead?”, the tweet read.

Given the theological diversity of Nigeria, the statement came as something of a shock to a sizable portion of the population. This has sparked a lot of discussion, particularly on social media.

While some Nigerians predicted defeat in 2023, others applauded the choice, claiming that Nigeria needed to stop using religion as its guiding principle.
