However, a political analyst, Frank Tietie, has explained that it is true that the Electoral Act of Nigeria specify that candidates and political parties are not permitted to source for funds from abroad for the purpose of funding an election campaign, there is a possibility that the Labour Party can receive funding from Nigerians living abroad without breaking the law.

According to Frank Tietie who spoke in an interview with Arise Television, the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act stated that candidates and political parties are not allowed to source for funds from abroad, however, the law did not include individuals or groups. In other words, Frank Tietie stated that considering the lapses in the Constitution and the Electoral Act, it is possible for individuals and groups to organize fundraising on behalf of Labour Party and Peter Obi without breaking the law.

Frank Tietie indicated that since the law did not include groups and individuals in the list of those persons or organizations that are not expected to raise funds from abroad for the purpose of funding an election campaign, it is possible that groups and individuals can raise the funds on behalf of Labour Party and Peter Obi.

Furthermore, Frank Tietie explained that the law went on to stipulate that any political party that receives funds from abroad must ensure that such fund should be remitted to INEC within 21 days. Judging from the explanations of Frank Tietie, there is an indication that money can come to political parties from abroad, however, it must be done in such a way that it does not go against the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
