Oral health: Appropriate Toothbrush To Use To Protect The Enamel Of The Teeth

[ad_1]

According to “WebMD”, Teeth are covered in a hard, outer coating called enamel. Every day, a thin film of bacteria called dental plaque builds up on your teeth. The bacteria in plaque produce acids that can harm enamel and cause cavities.

As long as you clean your teeth regularly using proper brushing techniques, you should be able to reduce plaque build-up and keep your gums healthy with either a manual or powered toothbrush. Here are some things to keep in mind as you go about choosing the best toothbrush:

1. Cost.

2. Likability.

3. Effectiveness.

4. Safety.

Which type of toothbrush can you use?

Your dental team will be able to recommend a toothbrush suitable for you. However, adults should choose a small- to the medium-sized brush head. This should have soft to medium, multi-tufted, round-ended nylon bristles or filaments. The head should be small enough to reach into all parts of the mouth: especially the back of the mouth where it can be difficult to reach. Children need to use smaller brushes but with the same type of filaments.

When should you change your toothbrush?

According to “Everydayhealth”, Bristles deteriorate with time and usage, so if you are using the same toothbrush for a few months, you may not be getting the best clean for your teeth anymore. Rather, you can decide to get a new brush every three to four months or a semi-annual dental checkup.
