Parks, marketplaces, and highways in Anambra will now have a new tax and levy system according to Soludo.

Anambra State’s professor Charles Soludo has halted the state’s use of tax collection by proxy.

During a one-day town hall meeting he convened with transport and market union executives in Anambra State on Thursday, Governor Soludo announced his choice.

The action is a part of the government’s decision to begin applying a new tax and levy regime on July 1, 2022, to all markets, motorways, and parks.

The new system, according to Soludo, would offer digital identity for all state taxes and levies paid, and commercial vehicle owners who already pay daily fees won’t need to pay again in any public parks.

They would also receive 5% of any union’s profits to operate their individual company sites.

In Anambra markets, he issued an order prohibiting caretaker committee members from collecting money on the government’s behalf, and he said that going forward, public parks owned by the government will be managed directly by the government.

Anyone in the state who poses as a government revenue collector has been strongly warned by the governor to quit immediately or face the full weight of the law. He continued by saying that his administration was frantically trying to stop government money from leaking into private wallets, which he regretted.

In line with his campaign promises, Soludo expressed confidence that Anambra will be peaceful, livable, and prosperous. He referred to the state as a “alpha state.”

The governor said that oil revenue is quickly decreasing and that the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has not transferred any proceeds from the sale of crude oil into the Federation Account since February of this year.

He pleaded with individuals who would be affected by the new system to consider the wider picture of making Anambra successful for the sake of everyone, insisting that he would soon offer them alternatives.
