Pay our 7 years earned academic allowances – LAUTECH lecturers tell VC, governing board

Lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso under the platform of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have urged the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Mojeed Liasu and the Chairman of Governing Council, Professor Deji Omole to pay the seven years arrears of earned academic allowances of the lecturers.

The lecturers made this disclosure on Thursday, blaming the leadership of the university for denying the academics their due promotion.

They noted that the denial of the arrears is capable of dampening their morale

ASUU Chairman and Secretary, Professors Biodun Olaniran and Toyin Abegunrin, made these disclosures in a statement titled “LAUTECH Administration: A Slave Driver”.

The duo in the statement made available  on Thursday put the amount being owed the lecturers at over five billion naira.

They said members have lost confidence in the university administration led by the acting Vice-chancellor and the Deji Omole-led Governing council to pursue their welfare.

The union advised governor Seyi Makinde to intervene, adding that urgent intervention of the governor became necessary in order to avoid crises in the university.

“Our Union cooperated with the administration to realize the debt from students with the understanding that our EAA and promotion arrears will be settled, knowing full well that at least one-third of it could be paid.

“However, as against our understanding, the university administration went ahead to appropriate the realized money on acclaimed capital projects and none of the two arrears was attended to.

“We, therefore, call on the Visitor, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde that we have lost confidence in the university administration led by acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof M.O Liasu and Professor Ayodeji Omole-led Governing Council to address our welfare matters. In this regard, to avoid a repeat of such avoidable scenario, he should intervene now”.
