Ahead of the start of the campaign for the 2023 presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the party are faced with a new dilemma over who and which zone to choose the head of the campaign team from.

In its timetable and 2023 schedule of activities, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set September 28, 2022 as the start date for presidential campaigns.

According to a credible source, the PDP and its candidate, former Vice President Atiku, have penciled in Sokoto state Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Enugu state Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former Osun state Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

According to the source, Tambuwal is being considered due to the North-voting west’s population, while Ugwuanyi, a loyalist of Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike, and Oyinlola are being considered as a last resort to appease the aggrieved governors and party members from the South.

The crisis arose as a result of Atiku’s selection of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate and Wike’s group’s insistence on the removal of the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

The call for Ayu’s removal arose as a result of the party’s selection of Atiku, a northerner, as its presidential candidate.
