‘PDP can’t be run by whims of an individual’, Omokri aims veiled jibe at Wike

Reno Omokri, a former presidential assistant, has once more spoken on the PDP’s internal strife, saying that the opposition cannot be “ruled by the whims of individual.”

Omokri’s criticism appeared to be addressed at Nyesom Wike, governor of the Rivers State, as well as some other southern party members who had been demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman.
Since Atiku Abubakar became the party’s front-runner for president, Governor Wike and supporters of him have requested that the national chairman resign in the name of fairness and justice.

All attempts at reconciliation had failed since Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Wike himself had stopped participating in the party’s presidential campaign operations.

In an interview aired on Channels Television on Thursday, Omokri stated that the national chairman’s departure had to be handled in accordance with the constitution.
The PDP leader insisted that the opposition party has internal channels for resolving differences.

He said that the national chairmanship had not been granted and added that the constitution bound disgruntled members.

He said: “We need to follow the rules. We can’t excuse the provisions of the party constitution. You can’t just give the Chairman of the party to someone. It has to be done through the process outlined by the constitution. Doing otherwise means we want to wreck our party and it’s not going to be wrecked.

“The presidential candidate has made efforts to bring all members of the party together. This is nothing to worry about. And the constitution of our party has inbuilt mechanism for justice and equity. The process of moving and soonest, everything would be addressed completely.”
