PDP Crisis: There was an agenda to make sure North does not lose power to the South- Party Chieftain

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Katch Ononuju has revealed that there was an agenda to ensure Northerners in the party does not lose power to the Southern members of the party. He said the reaction by some Southern caucus of the party to the current crisis in the party is a as a result of that agenda.

Recall that some leaders of the party from the South led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike have demanded that the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu steps down from his position. They argue that the presidential candidate and the national chairman cannot come from the Northern part of the country.

Speaking on TV360 with Deji Badmus, Mr Katch Ononuju said, “what we have seen is an agenda to make sure the Northerners do not lose power to the South. It was beautifully executed. And we are simply reacting, that’s what you must understand. We in the caucus of the party from the South are reacting having found out that agenda.

“And of course we were not very strong. We have people underdo us, we have people sabotage the Southern position which we even pushed by having declarations in Asaba and Lagos.

“But as you can see, our brothers in the North were able to plant snitches in the Southern area and they got it (the ticket). Now that they have the ticket, we are demanding for inclusion since they would demand that we will campaign with them.

“We want to be able to tell our people in the South since we run a representative democracy that we represent their interests. Not like those who went behind to represent their own personal interest. We seek to represent the interests of the South.”
