PDP Primaries: Why Atiku should withdraw – Ohanaeze

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the PDP convention because a “disgraceful outing awaits him either in the primaries or at the 2023 Presidential election.”

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, disclosed this in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday morning.

Isiguzoro insisted that Atiku lost the opportunity in 2019 to enter a deal with the South-East PDP leadership for a single term pact when he refused to obey a written request for a single term deal with the South-East.

The statement read in part, “Atiku’s last-minute stunt on the South-East PDP leaders and delegates to woo them with mockery vows to do a single term of four years and handover to the South-East is old fashioned tricks and South-East delegates are too sophisticated and cautiously optimistic for an Igbo aspirant.

“In 2019, Atiku Abubakar lost the opportunity to enter a deal with the South-East PDP leadership for a single term pact when he refused to adhere to a written request for a single term deal with the zone, which led to the South-East PDP Governors opting for the alternative since Igbo was not on the ballot.

“This is a collective disdain on the sensibility of Ndigbo, a man who benefited vastly on Igbo votes in 2019, and assumes that Igbos are unworthy of clinching the 2023 PDP Presidential ticket.

“It’s the height of deception and treachery, which is sufficient reasons why Igbo delegates should revolt and vote against Atiku at the PDP Convention”.

“It is detrimental to PDP’s fortunes in the 2023 general elections that a particular region will produce the PDP National Chairman, Produce the BOT chairman, produce the chairman of the 2022 PDP Convention/Presidential primaries and then another person from the same region will be 2023 PDP presidential candidate.

“North can’t have Dr. Iyochia Ayu as PDP Chairman, Walid Jubril as PDP BOT chairman, Sen David Mark as Chairman of the PDP convention and at the same time produce Atiku Abubakar as PDP Presidential candidate. PDP should redeem itself before it’s too late,” he cautioned.
