Amaju Pinnick, head of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has voiced his faith in the Nigerian team despite efforts by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana to depose the Super Falcons at the upcoming Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).

The South African Football Association (SAFA) offered Banyana Banyana players $30,000 each on Tuesday in exchange for their team winning the AWCON championship. The commitment was given by the SAFA president as the team were ready to go to Morocco.

The most successful team in the competition is Nigeria’s Falcons, who have won the continental women’s title nine times in total.

Pinnick instructed the Falcons to seek for the greatest prize at the games scheduled to take place in July in Morocco in a speech given later to the team in their Abuja camp.

He stated, “I feel we have the team to retain the trophy. We won it at the last tournament in Ghana.

“With the finest possible preparations, a welcoming atmosphere, and a relaxing stay at the championship in Morocco, the NFF will continue to support and encourage the team.

“Nothing can derail a team that is fully committed, united in its goals, and operating and moving in lockstep with one another.

“I want you to go to Morocco as a single, unbreakable force, allow your fervour to be fueled by patriotism, and be good ambassadors of our wonderful nation,” he said.

Super Falcons are grouped with Burundi, South Africa, and Botswana.

The Falcons are also aiming to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. Africa will be represented in Australia and New Zealand by all four of the tournament’s semifinals from Morocco.
