Kehinde and Oluwabukunola Fatinoye, who were killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Abeokuta, the state capital, were assassinated. The Ogun State Police Command has detained a suspect in connection with their deaths.

After returning from a crossover service, Kehinde and Oluwabukunola were assassinated early on Sunday morning at their Government Reservation Area home in Ibara, Abeokuta. Their assassins also kidnapped their son and housemaid in addition to setting fire to their bodies.

Kehinde Fatinoye was a former employee of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and his wife was a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

A suspect had been detained, according to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police command’s spokesperson, who also noted that an investigation was still ongoing.

“The incident happened after 12 in the morning. It is true that a couple was killed and set ablaze at their residence in Abeokuta, shortly after they returned from Crossover Service.

“This is a clear case of assassination and we are not leaving any stone unturned to unravel those behind the killings. One person has been arrested by our operatives in connection to the incident. We will get to the root of the matter, as investigation has since begun,” Oyeyemi said.

The remains of Kehinde and Oluwabukunola Fatinoye were laid to rest on Monday.

The burial service, which was conducted by S.K. Oyewale, took place at Christ Anglican Church in the Iporo-Ake area of the town on Monday. It was attended by family members and a large number of sympathisers.
