Early on Thursday, Buckingham Palace, United Kingdom, announced that Queen Elizabeth’s physicians were “concerned for Her Majesty’s health”.

It was disclosed that doctors have placed the 96-year-old monarch under medical supervision.

It was also reported that her children – Prince Charles, 73, Princess Anne, 72, Prince Andrew, 62, and Prince Edward, 58, were either already with her at Balmoral Castle, the royal residence where she was been tended to, or were on their way there.

However, a few hours later confirmed that Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-serving monarch had died peacefully.

Before she died, Queen Elizabeth was last seen in public on Tuesday, September 6, when she greeted politician Liz Truss at Balmoral, her castle in Scotland, and appointed her as prime minister. It was, however, observed that her hand looked pale during the meeting.

Queen Elizabeth’s health issues

The Queen has battled with health issues since spending

a night in the hospital last October. She has since then been struggling to walk and stand.

At that time, Buckingham Palace did not share details about her health issues but noted that the monarch had “reluctantly accepted” health advice to take some time off. This was her first known health issue since 2017.

Later that month, doctors advised her not to attend a climate summit in Scotland due to health concerns. Doctors then recommended she rest for two more weeks and only undertake minor responsibilities.

Catches COVID-19 last February

It could be recalled that Queen Elizabeth tested positive for COVID-19 last February even though she had been fully vaccinated against the viral infection.

It was reported that she experienced “mild cold-like symptoms” during this time. She later missed a Commonwealth Day service in mid-March.

Reduced public engagements since March

Queen Elizabeth was rarely seen attending any public event since late March. Between late March and mid-May 2022, she did not attend any public events. In April, she missed the Easter celebration and in May, she did not attend the ceremonial opening of the parliament as a result of ‘mobility issues.’

That absence was just the third time in 70 years that the monarch did not attend the opening of the Parliament.

She, however, attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May. She was a fan of the event as she also owned several horses.

Missed some Platinum Jubilee celebrations last June

The Platinum Jubilee was organized last June to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, but the monarch was not present at all the activities.

Appointed a new prime minister in Scotland

The tradition for years was for Queen Elizabeth to appoint a new prime minister in London. She, however, broke with this tradition on September 6 when she appointed Liz Truss as a replacement for Boris Johnson. The former and newly elected prime ministers had to travel to meet with her in Scotland where the event was held.

According to reports, that was the first time in her 70-year reign that the prime minister was appointed in Scotland.
