Queen Elizabeth II dies at the age of 96

The United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, officially known as Queen Elizabeth II, has left the world on Thursday afternoon (8th September 2022) at Balmoral castle at the age of 96. She resigned for 70 years. Charles, her oldest son, has now become King Charles III.

Queen Elizabeth II was born in Mayfair, London to the family of the Duke and Duchess of York, and she was the first child of the family. Her father, King George VI, acceded to the throne in 1936. But following the death of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne on 6th February 1952 and witnessed enormous social change. She was married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April 2021 at the age of 73 years.

King Charles III said that his beloved mother died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon. He further said that his mother’s death was a moment of greatest sadness for him and all the members of his family. He acknowledged that her death will be deeply felt throughout the country, the commonwealth, the realms and also by different people around the world.

Meanwhile, the King and his wife will return to London on Friday, and he is expected to address the nation on Friday, 9th September 2022.
