Former Chelsea and Lille star Eden Hazard who currently ply his trade with Real Madrid has struggled for form since he made a big-money move from the English Premier League to the Spanish team. The Belgium international has had to struggle with injuries in most of his time at Real Madrid. The form of Vinicius has also hindered Hazard from getting enough playing time to get back to full fitness. The player has been linked with a move back to the English Premier League but he has insisted that he is going to make name for himself in Real Madrid before he leaves.
During Real Madrid’s Champions League encounter with Celtic, Karim Benzema who has occupied the striking position for a long period got injured. This ugly incident created room for Hazard to play as a false 9 in the team. It didn’t take a long time before Hazard scored in that match. The player looked very comfortable in that position in the match, at some point he dropped so deep in the match in other to help the midfielders.
Hazard can perform very well in the false number 9 role for Madrid because he can hold the ball high up the pitch when his team is in the possession of the ball, this gives him the space to unleash great passes for Vinicius to attack from the left wing.
Hazard can also dribble past a couple of players in that position though he does not have a sharp eye for goal but playing in that position means that he will create a lot of goalscoring opportunities for his teammates and he will also support the midfield department in moving the ball forward in other to create more chances.
With the way Hazard played against Celtic, Carlo Ancelotti may be considering playing the striker in that position until Benzema returns from injury.
