Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has axed five players from the first-team training ground dressing room to accommodate new summer signings, The Sun report.
The Red Devils currently have a capacity of 24 players to occupy the locker rooms at the AON training complex, and Ten Hag has had to shift as many as five first-team members after the summer spending spree.
Phil Jones is currently one of the longest serving players at the club, having spent more than 11 years. He has been one of those shunted down to the corridor to the Under-23 changing room alongside Brandon Williams.
Axel Tuanzebe, Teden Mengi and the exciting Shola Shoretire are the other three forced to shift with Ten Hag giving priority to his summer signings over players that could head for the exit door in the near future.
Jones spoke about his intention to play regularly earlier this year, and it came as a surprise to us that he ended up staying with the club. The Red Devils could have mutually terminated his contract, but were happy to keep him.
Meanwhile, Williams and Tuanzebe were also much fancied to leave Old Trafford before the deadline, but it seems Ten Hag decided to block their departures amid injuries to the likes of Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Hence, the Red Devils are now stuck with the trio until the turn of the year unless they are willing to listen to possible bids from clubs in Belgium, Greece, Turkey among others where the summer transfer window is still open.
Ten Hag recently said that the squad will remain as it is until January at least, and the club’s hierarchy are most likely to wait until the winter transfer window before considering fresh offers for their outcasts.
