Report: Manchester United ‘rejected chance to sign Leandro Paredes during summer window

[ad_1]

Leandro Paredes was available to Manchester United in the final days of the summer transfer window, but they reportedly turned it down.

After failing to persuade Frenkie de Jong to transfer from Barcelona to Old Trafford, the Red Devils turned their focus to Adrien Rabiot of Juventus.

The personal terms of the agreement to sign the France international fell through, thus Man United eventually moved to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.

The 20-time English champions were offered Paredes, but the club was not interested in signing the Argentina international, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Before the transfer window closed, the 28-year-old finally signed a loan agreement with Juventus, with the possibility of a permanent transfer to the Old Lady in the following summer.

“Man United had a chance. Leandro Paredes of Paris Saint-Germain was there. He was one of the players Manchester United was promised, according to Romano’s official YouTube account.

“After missing out on Adrien Rabiot, they intended to wait a little longer on the market. To await Casemiro was what they desired. Finally, they signed Casemiro. And they are ecstatic.

But Paredes was one of the unannounced choices Manchester United was given. Leandro Paredes, who had always desired a summer transfer to Juventus, was not pursued. With Juventus, he had a personal contract. He joined Juve at the end of the season to take advantage of a new Italian opportunity.

Paredes transferred from Zenit St. Petersburg to PSG in 2019, and he has played 117 times for the Italian powerhouse across all competitions, collecting three goals and 10 assists.

The South American played in PSG’s first three Ligue 1 games of this season, but he only saw action as a substitute in all three appearances. On transfer deadline day, he was finally permitted to leave.

Christian Eriksen and Casemiro bolstered Man United’s midfield during the summer, but Casemiro has yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils, partly because of the play of Scott McTominay.

Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Antony, and Martin Dubravka were among the six newcomers at Old Trafford that Erik ten Hag’s team added during the summer transfer window.

The English juggernauts lost to Brighton & Hove Albion twice to start the 2022–23 Premier League season.

The group has already triumphed over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester City, and Arsenal in their previous four matches to move up to fifth place in the standings with 12 points, just three points behind leaders Arsenal.

Prior to traveling to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, Ten Hag’s team is presently preparing for their Europa League opening against Real Sociedad, which takes place on Thursday night.
