Due to social media posts that were found to have breached public order, a Saudi Arabian court sentenced a woman to 45 years in jail.
The woman, Nourah bint Saeed Al-Qahtani, was found guilty by the Saudi Specialized Criminal Court of breaking public order and tearing apart Saudi society online.
A Washington-based non-governmental organisation, DAWN, responded to the decision on Wednesday by describing Al-conviction Qahtani’s as the most recent in the Asian Kingdom’s campaign against female activists in the wake of Joe Biden’s recent visit.
The woman’s conviction came a few weeks after a mother of two, Salma Al-Shehab, a doctoral candidate at the University of Leeds in Britain, was sentenced to 35 years in jail for following and re-tweeting posts by activists on Twitter.
