Scavenger remanded for stealing equipment worth N150,000

Karu Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered that a  scavenger, Kabiru Abubakar, who stole equipment from a block industry be remanded, pending sentencing.

The police charged Abubakar, 23, who lives in Angwangede near Ave-Maria tipper garage, Abuja, with joint acts of criminal trespass and theft.

The Judge, Malam Inuwa Maiwada, adjourned the case until October 19 for sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the defendant and one other now at large criminally trespassed into the complainant’s block industry located at Angwangede, Karu, Abuja, and stole block equipment worth N150,000.

He said, during the police investigation, the defendant admitted that he sold the items to Murtala Abubakar for N6, 000

The prosecutor said the matter was reported at the Jikwoyi Police Station by Anayo Mbah of Kurudu, Abuja.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 348 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN).
