Should traditional rulers endorse a candidate or even tell their subjects who to vote?- HRM Benjamin

In an interview with the Arise News, Dein of Agor, HRM. Benjamin Ikenchukwu, was asked to give his take on cases of some traditionally rulers who endorsed candidate and even directing their subject on who to votes.

HRM Benjamin began by saying that every kingdom and people should be careful who they are bringing up as a monarch or traditional ruler because we do not need a situation where our traditional rulers are placing themselves in harm’s way.

He said that for a traditional ruler to dabble directly into politics, he leaves himself very open to a number of things that could happen. He gave example of what happened in Kano, he said it was an unfortunate situation but thanked God that it had been resolved and that the state had moved forward.

He said in a situation where traditional rulers are directing their subject who to vote, he asked what happened if they lose the votes?.

He gave another example of a candidate that came to see him one time and told him of a traditional ruler that refused to see him. He said he knows how that candidate felt, and he knows what the candidate said to him. He said if the candidate had won, things wouldn’t go well for the traditional ruler. He then asked, “Why would any traditional ruler want to be in that situation?”
