Siaya: Police Curb Attempts to Burn MP Ochieng’s Home After Joining Ruto’s Camp
Police in Ugenya Siaya county has thwarted attempts by goons to burn MP-elect David Ochieng’s home days after joining President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp.
According to reports, a contingent of police officers from the Kanyumba Police Post was forced to rush to the MP’s home and dispersed the would-be arsonists who were planning the heinous act.
It was reported that the arsonists were protesting the decision by the new Ugenya MP to ditch Raila’s Azimio la Umoja camp and join Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza team.
The attempts to burn his home came after Ugenya constituency took to the streets of Sega town to protest the decision, saying they cannot allow being auctioned like goats by their MP.
According to the villagers, the officers rushed to the MP’s home, a few meters from Komoro Primary School after they were alerted about a group of angry youth approaching the home while carrying crude weapons.
Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander, Michael Muchiri said investigations into the matter have been launched.
“Ugenya sub-county police commander Benard Wamugunda is dealing with the issues,” said Muchiri, confirming that the CDF offices had also been damaged.
Their anger saw a section of rowdy residents invade and vandalize and damage the constituency’s CDF office. They broke windows and some cars that were parked outside the office.
The protesting residents, who largely support Raila’s quest for the presidency, claimed the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party leader did not seek their opinion while making a decision to ditch the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja.
They vowed not to follow him to Ruto’s camp, challenging him to resign from his newly acquired position.
