Southern Kaduna Christian leaders to screen candidates

[ad_1]

The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association has resolved to organise ‘The Pastors Congress’ to screen candidates to support ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This was part of the resolutions reached after a joint meeting with the Board of Trustees of the association held in Kafanchan on Saturday.

A communiqué obtained by Sunday PUNCH and signed by the association’s Chairman, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, explained that the congress, which would bring together over 1,000 clergies from all denominations in the area, was also expected to have the governorship candidates of all the political parties in the state in attendance to speak on their blueprint for the people of Southern Kaduna.

Kure stated, “We desire to change the old order where our people go into elections without negotiating with candidates.

“When the candidates eventually get our votes and win elections, they treat us like second-class citizens.

“This move is to give all the parties a level playing ground to convince and give the church a direction on the best candidate to follow.”

The statement while rejoicing with the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Mathew Hassan-Kukah, who turned 70 on Wednesday, also commiserated with the immediate family and congregation of the late General Overseer of the Solid Rock Fellowship International, Archbishop Zakka Bonet, who died on August 19, 2022 after a protracted illness.
