Strike: Follow the method of Jonathan and talk with ASUU personally – Stakeholders urge Buhari

[ad_1]

With regards to the lingering strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Mr. Joe Bukka, the Convener of the Middle Belt Movement for Justice and Peace (MBMJP) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to follow the method adopted by Former President, Goodluck Jonathan in resolving the crisis.

He recently disclosed this while lamenting that the strike had caused negative impact on the Nigerian university system as an academic year was already lost to the COVID 19 pandemic and the same strike action.

In summary, he said: ” Jonathan’s strategy paid off in November 2013 when the strike lasted for four months. He rose to the occasion and summoned all the relevant government functionaries and the leadership of ASUU to a meeting which he personally presided over. He took charge of the negotiations in a sitting that lasted for about 12 hours and the strike was called off to the relief of all Nigerians. We urge the president to adopt the same strategy because it is a national embarrassment that our schools have remained shut”.
