Strike: Minister Of Education Reveals The Stand Of The Government On ASUU’s Demand

[ad_1]

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has revealed that the government can not guarantee a 100% implementation of the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). He further revealed that the government has made a shift and it is now left for the striking lecturers to do the same.

The Minister made this known during an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, September 7.

According to Sahara Reporters, the Minister noted that “Nigerians have no good reason to be disappointed over the six-month old strike of ASUU.”

While answering the question of whether he (the Minister) is impressed with the height the government has reached with the striking lecturers, he made it known that the Federal Government has done well. He further stated that he is convinced on the part of the government that they made a shift to meet the demand.

The Minister asked the university union to make a shift to their demand the same way the Federal Government had done.

Moving forward, Adamu asked Nigerians who are putting pressure on the government to end the strike to also exert the same pressure on the union.

Recall that ASUU embarked on a warning strike on February 14. After six months of shutting down the public universities in Nigeria, the union decided to embark on an indefinite strike.
