‘Teaching Is Just A Small Fraction Of What We Do’ – Prof. Badejo reacts to FG’s ‘No work no pay’ policy

The Federal Government has made its stance clear on the ASUU strike this week. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has asserted that the laws of the state are that ‘No work, No pay’. And as regards the number of months Asuu had not been at work, he alleged that the FG won’t have to pay the Lecturers for not being in class.

However, in a Channels TV interview with a former Vice Chancellor of Wesley University in Ondo State, Professor Tola Badejo, who’s now a Teaching Professor at Obafemi Awolowo University. He alleged that the strike has not stopped the Lecturers and Professors from working behind the scenes. According to him, teaching in the classroom is merely a small fraction of the arduous duties of University lecturers. He stated boldly that as far as he’s concerned, the ‘No work, No pay’ recommendation is dead on arrival.

He said, ”No work, No pay can never apply to Professors. Teaching is what we don’t do on strike, and teaching is just a small fraction of what we do. We grade exams, we mark scripts, and do all sorts of things. No lecturer or Professor will abandon research because Asuu is on strike. We work every day from home.”
