At least four persons have been reportedly killed while two sustained injuries when suspected terrorists attacked them at Ofeapo along Idrisu-Bagana road in the Omala Local government Area of Kogi State.

The terrorists were said to have attacked the victims while returning from Bagana market on Thursday. The victims who were mainly traders were travelling on tricycles when the gunmen opened fire on them at a close range.

The state police spokesperson, William Aya, who confirmed the incident, however said one only the tricycle rider was killed while two others who sustained injuries were rushed to a medical facility in Abejukolo, headquarters of Omala LGA.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, had mobilised tactical squad and officers of the division to the scene to possibly fish out the perpetrators.

The paramount ruler of Omala Local Government Area traditional council, Boniface Musa, the Ojogba of Ife has condemned the act and prayed to God to give the family of the victims the fortitude to bear the loss.

He decried the incessant attacks on the Bagana people by gunmen, lamenting that the killings had taken the peace process aback at a time where hands were on deck for safe return of the internally displaced persons to their homes.

The monarch appealed to the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to urgently wade into the lingering Bagana crisis that had claimed lives and rendered many homeless.

Urging him to implement the recommendations of the Col. Suleiman Babanawa (retd)-led committee, he called for the deployment of security agencies to Bagana town to forestall further bloodshed in the communities.

The locals noted that those killed by the terrorists were two males and two females who were natives of Bagana but relocated to Abejukolo in the wake of continued killings in the communities.
