Member, ASUU-Federal Government negotiating committee, Senator Ita Enang has disclosed that the federal government cannot keep signing agreement it knows it can’t sustain considering the available resources.
Senator Ita Enang who made the remarks when he was reacting to the face-off between the federal government and the academic staff union of universities,
stressed that it is this kind of lingering and protracted industrial action by the academic staff union of universities that forced the federal government to put pen to paper in 2009 even when it knew the resources wouldn’t be enough to meet such agreement.
Senator Ita Enang further revealed that the federal government is being careful not to enter into any agreement that it doesn’t have the money or the resources to meet at the end of the day because it will lead to more strikes by the union.
You will recall that the academic staff union of universities has been on strike for over 6 Months as academic activities in Nigerian public universities remain paralyzed.
