Tobi Amusan of Nigeria won the women’s 100-meter hurdles event at the Diamond League championship in Zurich, breaking 22-year-old previous record.

Amusan won the trophy on Thursday night after successfully defending her Diamond League title by crossing the finish line in 12.29 seconds.

Britany Anderson from Jamaica placed third, with American Tia Jones coming in second in 12.40 seconds.

In 12.42 seconds, the Nigerian took home the Diamond League trophy the previous year. She also achieved a record in Africa.

In recent years, Amusan has been in excellent shape.

She won the women’s 100-meter hurdles gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in August.

Amusan beat the hurdles record in the semifinals of the World Athletic Championship one month earlier in 12.12 seconds.

With a determined performance in Eugene, Oregon, the 25-year-old also became the first Nigerian to take home a gold medal at the competition.

Similar to this, the Nigerian successfully defended her African championships title at the World Athletics Diamond League in June with a time of 12:57 seconds.

The first and only Nigerian to win the African, Commonwealth, and World titles in the same calendar year is Amusan.
