Chelsea on Wednesday sacked their manager, Thomas Tuchel, following their UEFA Champions League group stage 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.

Chelsea announced this in a statement via its website, adding that the Blues’ coaching staff will temporarily take charge of the first team.

The statement partly read, “Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel.

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

Nine months after Naomi Silekunola, the last wife of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, left him, the monarch has on Tuesday married a new wife, Mariam Anako.

The marriage took place at the palace of the monarch in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The new wife was ushered into the palace after brief rites at the entrance to the premises. Reports had it she was led into the inner court of the palace to meet her husband and other guests waiting to receive her.

Oba Ogunwusi in a video shared on the Facebook page of his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, around 10:30 pm on Tuesday, was assisted by chiefs and close aides, in welcoming the new wife into the palace.

18 Governorship Candidates Visit Wike In Port Harcourt

At least 18 governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in next year’s elections on Tuesday night met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in a new attempt to resolve the impasse in the party.

The candidates arrived the private home of the Rivers governor in Port Harcourt, the state capital, at 8pm on Tuesday for a closed-door meeting that lasted till about 11pm.

The candidates in attendance include that of Kaduna, Plateau, Katsina, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Benue, Sokoto, Jigawa, Borneo and Yobe.

Others are, Kwara, Kanu, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers.

After the meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Candidates Forum and Governorship Candidate of Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, told journalists that they are hopeful the discussion with Wike, which comes a few days after their meeting with the Presidential Candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, will go a long way in resolving the internal crisis.

He said their next line of action is to meet with the National Working Committee of the party.

Kogi Police Confirm Robbery Attacks On Three Banks In Ankpa

The Kogi State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the robbery of three commercial banks in Ankpa town, Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Tribune Online gathered that the fully armed robbers numbering over 15 invaded the three banks simultaneously at about 3 pm on Tuesday and robbed the banks including customers.

An eyewitness said one stray bullet killed a young lady who was close to one of the banks that was being robbed at that time.

Meanwhile, the State Police PRO, SP William Ayah in a press statement issued on Wednesday confirmed the incident.

According to him, the armed robbers invaded three banks namely UBA, First bank, and Zenith bank Ankpa simultaneously.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command CP Edward Egbuka, immediately led a team of tactical operatives to the scenes for on-the-spot assessment and has equally ordered the deployment of additional operational assets consisting of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.

“The Police personnel on duty both at the station and the banks quickly recovered from the sudden attack and gallantly repelled the attackers who were forced to flee: some into nearby bushes, others with their vehicles. The hoodlums abandoned three vehicles used for the operation in their haste to escape, some of them with bullet wounds.
