Drama as APC members declare support for PDP in Offa, Kwara

There was rowdiness during an All Progressives Congress, APC, ward meeting held in Shawo South West, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State as party members openly declared support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against the wish of APC.

Video footage, which emerged from the APC ward meeting, showed how the ward chairman and his vice tried to stop members from chanting PDP during the meeting but were utterly resisted by angry members.

Reports said they shouted at the ward chairman telling him to his face that PDP must return and that Offa is now fully PDP.

Not so pleased with the turn of events, the APC chairman who tried to persuade the angry members, told them they must not allow PDP to come back to power.

Obasanjo, Wike Will Support Atiku To Win Elections ― Aniagwu

The spokesperson for the Atiku Campaign organisation, Mr Charles Aniagwu has declared that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike will throw their weights behind the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, which will in turn translate to a victory in 2023 election.

Speaking to newsmen in Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday, Aniagwu said that the former President, Chief Obasanjo and Governor of River state, Nyesom Wike were part of Atiku’s project to win the 2023 presidential election.

INEC commences recruitment for ad-hoc staff

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will soon launch a portal for the recruitment of ad-hoc staff.

The commission, in a letter signed by A.T Yusuf, for the INEC Secretary, on Wednesday said that the portal will be open to eligible applicants from 14 September to 14 December by 8:00 p.m.

According to the letter, the exercise, which will be launched through INECPRES, will be opened to other categories of ad-hoc staff except for collation/returning officers.

The letter addressed to all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), requested the cooperation of all administrative secretaries, heads of departments, among others, to attain the required number of ad-hoc staff per state.

‘A wicked lie’ — Awolowo Dosunmu denies saying there’s plot to get rid of Tinubu

Tokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu, executive director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, has debunked reports claiming she said there is a plot to get rid of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports had surfaced online that Awolowo Dosunmu, who is the daughter of late Obafemi Awolowo, had said there is a plot to get rid of Tinubu and install Kashim Shettima, his running mate, as president.

The reports also claimed that she said the plot would be executed immediately after the swearing-in, and that those behind it would take advantage of Tinubu’s medical condition.

But in a statement on Wednesday, Awolowo Dosumu, who is also the chairman, African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, described the report as “false, mischievous and wicked”, adding that she had not spoken with any journalist on the candidates 2023 presidential elections.

Troops Kill 2 Terrorists On Kaduna-Zaria Expressway

Troops of the Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, killed terrorists around the Fondisho on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State, just as others escaped with gunshot wounds.

A statement issued by the Commissioner, Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed that in an operational feedback to the State Government by security operatives, it was revealed that the troops, responding quickly to credible intelligence, set up an ambush position at the location.

Aruwan explained further that on entering the area, the bandits sprang the ambush and came under intense fire as they were stoutly repelled by the troops, leading to the neutralisation of two of the criminals.
