Govs split, Wike’s camp rejects campaign offers

There are no signs of respite yet in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the vote of confidence passed on the party’s National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, on Thursday by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Governors elected on the platform of the party seemed to have drawn the battle line by showing where they belong in the face-off between the PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

Out of 13 governors, only four – Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto); Douye Diri (Bayelsa); Darius Ishaku (Taraba); Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) – attended the Thursday meeting.

Somebody in Presidency Backing Atiku — Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that an individual in Nigeria’s presidency is supporting Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2023 elections.

The former vice president is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike lost the ticket to him in May and continues to insist that the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, step down.

In his remarks at the Ahoada Campus of the Rivers State University, he said the party’s flagbearer and the chairman should be from the North.

Only popular candidates Will win the 2023 elections — Gbenga Daniel

A former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work hard to achieve success for the ruling party in the 2023 elections.

Daniel, who said this during an interactive session at a two-day leadership capacity development program for Councillors in Ogun East Senatorial District held in Ijebu-Ode, said, with the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), only popular candidates would henceforth win elections in the country.

The event with the theme, “Understanding Leadership and Legislative Responsibilities at the Grassroots Level,” had in attendance 103 Councillors and 24 youth leaders drawn from the nine local government areas in Ogun East Senatorial District.

Kano police arrested 331 suspects in one month

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 331 suspected criminals in one month.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Lawal, disclosed this on Friday at a press briefing on the achievements recorded by the command. The suspects, he said, were arrested for alleged robbery, kidnapping, car theft, thuggery, and drug abuse, among others.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Lawal stated that 51 suspects were arrested for robbery, 69 for kidnapping, 12 for fraud, 18 vehicle and tricycle thieves, seven human traffickers, six drug dealers, and 168 suspected thugs.

Lawal said that most of the suspects were already being charged to courts for prosecution.
