Hundreds of APC Members Defect to PDP in Southwest State

Hundreds of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ifedore local government area of Ondo state have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defection, according to The Punch, took place at the PDP secretariat, Igbara-Oke, the headquarters of the council area, on Monday, September 5.

Legit.ng gathers that leaders of the PDP in the local government and the state were in attendance to receive the defectors.

Welcoming the defectors, the local government chairman of the PDP, Chief Dare Owolafe, assured the new members of justice, fairness, and equity among members of the PDP.

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has anchored his avoidance of public interaction and media chats on a self-acclaimed intellectual superiority to other contenders for Nigeria’s highest office.

Mr Tinubu took to his Twitter account on Monday, tweeting: “I talk less, think more and do more. I am more of an eagle than a parrot. That is why I fly higher.”

Lagos commissioner for physical planning resigns

Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako, has resigned his appointment.

Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who announced Mr Salako’s resignation in Ikeja on Monday, did not state the reason for his resignation.

He stated, however, that the commissioner’s resignation was a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and its agencies.

He added that governor Sanwo-Olu accepted the commissioner’s resignation, thanked him for his services to the state and wished him success in his future endeavours.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a commercial bus driver, Salvation Taylor Harry, and the abduction of eight passengers along the Emohua-Kalabari Road in the State at the weekend.

This is as operatives of Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit, have rescued no fewer than 15 children from an illegal orphanage home in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), gave the confirmation while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Iringe-Koko, who assured that the adequate security has been mobilized to the road to forestall future occurrence, said that the Police has commenced investigation into the matter.

The Nigerian government has said that it has put Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the country on the run.

The government claimed that the military and other security agents have been able to contain the daunting security challenges the country faces, insisting that “the worst is indeed over.”

The Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), stated while addressing the press in Abuja on Monday.

According to him, “We have now put the terrorists, bandits and their like on the run and we will not relent until they have been crushed.”
