GOVERNOR Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State on Friday said that only God can decide the fate of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and other candidates in the 2023 elections.

Governor Umahi said that the Obidient Movement, which is the political group working for the election victory of Mr. Obi is anchored on fairness and equity.

The governor stated this while speaking with State House correspondenrs after he had a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the presidential villa Abuja.

Although he said that he was encouraged by the Obidient Movement and the acceptability of the LP’s Presidential candidate, he noted that the acceptability does not translate to victory, expressing the optimism that his All Progressives Congress, APC, would win the 2023 presidential election.

Anthony Joshua has been tipped to face WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in an all-British heavyweight match in December and former opponent Oleksandr Usyk has offered to help Joshua train for the fight against Fury.

The fight is expected to take place at the end of this year, with the undefeated Fury set to go into the bout as the overwhelming favourite to claim the spoils against his long-time rival.

WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Usyk offered his services to Joshua ahead of the fight by insisting that he will be on hand to assist in training if he is asked to between now and the start of December.

“If he needs my help, I will go to his camp and help him,” Usyk told Sky Sports via Boxing Scene. “He is not 40 years old, he is 33, so he should keep working.

“Anthony, don’t stop. I understand that he wanted to win against me, but Anthony can’t give up. He must go forward.”

Fury was mocked for ‘running’ away from an undisputed heavyweight clash with Usyk by the latter’s manager, Egis Klimas.

Eighteen days to the commencement of presidential campaigns, the sources of funding of campaign activities by the leading candidates remain a mystery as they have refused to disclose how they will raise money to sell their programmes to the electorate.

According to the timetable of the Independent Electoral Commission, campaigns for next year’s presidential election will begin on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Presidential campaigns in the country usually involves a lot of logistics such as candidates and party officials travelling to all states capitals to address rallies, where they sell their manifestos, mobilisation of supporters to such rallies, purchasing vehicles, printing souvenirs like T-shirts and fez caps as well as posters, placing advertisements in newspapers, online media, TV and radio stations, among others.

Section 88 of the Electoral Act, 2022 pegs the amount a presidential candidate can spend to prosecute an election at N5bn, while the sum an individual or entity can donate to the candidate is N50m.
