We did not collect any money from Tinubu: CAN speaks

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has rubbished a media report claiming it received money from Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

The association in its reaction to the report captioned, ‘How Tinubu met, resolved Muslim -Muslim ticket with CAN’, said the story should be disregarded in its entirety.

The reaction by the Christian apex body is contained in a statement issued by Luminous Jannamike, Special Assistant on Media to the CAN President, on Monday in Abuja.

The Christian body said it had not changed its earlier stand on the Muslim -Muslim ticket, adding however that it respected the decision of political parties on issues that affect their electoral fortunes, so long as it was in accord with Nigeria’s Constitution and Electoral Act.

“For the umpteenth time, CAN reiterates that it is non -partisan, but remains willing to partner with all leaders and other relevant stakeholders towards achieving unity, peace, and progress in our nation.

Headies: Don’t Advise Me, Singer Portable Warns Fans

Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, on Monday, warned his fans not to give him any piece of advice save they will give him money.

He said this after the 15th Headies award show was held.

He had been disqualified from being nominated for the award show for being under police investigation, following his claim that he is the founder of criminal gangs.

He said, “Don’t give me any advice. Any advice that is not accompanied with money is not welcome.

“If you want to advise me, give me money. Then, I will listen to your advice”.

BREAKING: Federal Govt Suspends Excise Duty On Telecom Services

The Federal Government has announced an immediate suspension of the 5% excise duty that was planned to be imposed on telecommunications services in 2022.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, who made this announcement at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja on Monday, cited the increasing hardship on Nigerians, and the willingness of the President Muhammadu Buhari government to lessen the burden of the people.

Pantami noted that the telecommunications sector is already being over taxed, stressing that the Excise Duty will impose immsense burden on Nigerians.

He said that the excise duties are usually imposed luxury goods and not telecommunications services that are increasingly becoming essential services for the survival of the people.

Ondo: Kidnappers demand N90m ransom for abducted burial guests

Kidnappers who abducted some funeral guests in Ondo State have sought a ransom of N90 million before releasing the victims.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded between N3 million and N10 million on each victim in order to free them.

The victims were abducted in Ifon, Ondo State, a border town with Edo State, while returning from a burial service in Ewatto, Edo State.

According to Mrs. Bamidele Ademola -Olateju, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, the state government was not participating in the ransom negotiation when she made this announcement at a news conference in Akure.

According to Olateju, paying a ransom gives kidnappers more authority to continue in their crime.
