Igbo’s Quest For United Nigeria Not In Doubt—Jonathan

Former President Good luck Jonathan has said that Ndigbo, right from the struggle for Nigeria’s independence, has been at the forefront of a desire for a united Nigeria.

He spoke at a lecture organized in celebration of the 80th birthday of elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, by the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Owerri, on Saturday.

The former president said one of the foremost Igbo leaders, late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, had exhibited pan-Nigerian and pan-African commitment in his pre-independence speeches, adding that it was the same spirit that Ndigbo of today exhibit in their quest for the unity of Nigeria.

Tinubu Mourns Death of 51 People in Jigawa

Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has mourned the death of 51 people who lost their lives in the recent flooding that occurred in Jigawa State.

Many communities across the state were affected and four local governments were badly hit by the flood caused by heavy rainfall rendering hundreds homeless and killing 51 people.

Tinubu in a statement Saturday by his Media Office described the tragedy as devastating.

Peter Obi is not a threat to my presidential ambition – Sowore

Mr. Omoyele Sowore, the presidential flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC), has said Peter Obi of the Labour Party is not a threat to his 2023 ambition.

He stated this on Friday night during an interview on Channels TV’s show, “Politics Today.” According to Sowore, the former governor of Anambra is not “new to the rotten system” and is part of the “old system”.

Sowore said; “I don’t see Peter Obi as a threat. He’s not new to the rotten system. Somebody who was Anambra’s governor for eight years. He didn’t build any schools, he didn’t build any industry, he didn’t build a power station. He’s not my kind of progressive.”

Vote candidate who believes in Nigeria’s unity — Jonathan tells Nigerians

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, on Saturday called on Nigerians to vote for the presidential candidate of any political party that believed in the unity of Nigeria.

Jonathan made this call on the lecture series to mark the 80th birthday of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, which took place in Owerri, with the theme “Igbo Quest for Nigeria’s Unity.”

According to Jonathan, “Iwuanyanwu is a man of many colors and a meticulous investor whose positive story would guide the leaders of the country. Iwuanyanwu is a man of victory and his songs tell a story he has continued to place unity above parochial interest.”
