Owen Hargreaves, a former player for Manchester United, has criticized Chelsea‘s expensive summer signing, Wesley Fofana, after his poor performance in their Champion League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb yesterday evening.
Despite dominating in possession, Chelsea were stunned by Dinamo Zagreb, who grabbed a 1-0 victory over the Premier League giants. Chelsea spent around £75million to sign Fofana from Leicester City and according to Owen, he didn’t look explosive in the match.
Speaking on BT Sport, the former Man United star maintained that the club decided to break the bank in order to get Fofana because of his explosiveness, Tuchel would be disappointed that they’re conceding goals even after all the reinforcement at the back.
He said: “They bought Fofana for exactly this reason, to squeeze the pitch, play high, he can [track] runs in behind and he’s quick. But he didn’t look overly explosive in that one, and I think Tuchel will be worried that they’re conceding soft goals when they’re dominating games.”
“They’ve just spent £70m on him because he’s aggressive and quick. I’m surprised he doesn’t get back. Young kids, they want to rely on their athleticism.”
Chelsea have been looking shaking since the start of the season, Tuchel would need to quickly find the balance in his team before it gets worse.
