In Katsina State, between the villages of Kamfanin Mailafiya and Kurmin Doka, young children were abducted from a farm by bandits. UNICEF has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately and safely rescue the children.
In a statement released on Friday, Cristian Munduate, the UNICEF representative in Nigeria, emphasised that kidnapping kids “whether at home, at school, on the farm, or anyplace else, is repulsive.”
The Police had confirmed on Wednesday that gunmen kidnapped nearly 40 children working on a farm in Katsina.
The UNICEF representative emphasised that “children should never be the target of violence, especially by anyone who should be safeguarding them” and urged the authorities to “take appropriate action to recover the stolen children and reconnect them with their families without delay.”
She added, “UNICEF also calls on the authorities to rescue other persons reported to have been kidnapped on the farm at the same time the children were abducted.”
