The 3 Greatest Arsenal Defenders In Football History.

[ad_1]

Arsenal has enjoyed tremendous success during their time in the English Premier League. Their consistent stream of top-tier defenders has been a major factor in their success. Even though the club was first established in 1886, it would be many years before they would witness their best performers. Many of Arsenal‘s greatest players have been recognized and honored thanks to the development of the sport and an increase in top-flight victories.

Featured in this list are players ranging from the 1960s up to the mid-2000s. No current Gunners appear. Rankings are based on both on-field talent and the successes of Arsenal during their time there.

Patrick Vieira, while not being a real defender, is one of the all-time best Arsenal players and belongs on this list.

He established himself as a defensive midfielder, and he left an enduring impression. Vieira dominated the Premier League physically from 1996 to 2005 with his 6’4″ size. His passing and vision were among the greatest that England’s top-flight had to offer, and his defensive prowess surpassed that of any center-half in the league. He was a beast.

Vieira played 406 times for Arsenal, scoring 33 goals and winning six titles. He played a key role in the Gunners winning three FA Cups (1998), three League Championships (1998), and three League Championships (2002, 2004, 2005).

The game-winning penalty kick in the 2005 FA Cup final victory over Manchester United was his final performance as a Gunner.

No Arsenal supporter will quickly forget Vieira’s time spent in London.

2: David O’Leary

During his tenure, Arsenal didn’t win more games than at any other time. He was not a “Invincibles” member.

Despite these realities, David O’Leary succeeded by working hard, being adaptable, and being loyal. He represented the Gunners in 722 games, a club record. He made his debut for Arsenal when they were an ailing team that was fighting to avoid the drop. He joining the squad was a major factor in their ability to survive.

He was the epitome of consistency over the next almost 20 years that he played for Arsenal. Nobody had to put forth as much effort or make as many sacrifices for him.

As he aged and began to sustain injuries, Arsenal replaced him with a young player. He battled through his wounds and came back, only to discover that his spot had been stolen.

But his perseverance allowed him to keep his spot as the squad’s right back. The club’s efforts to locate a replacement for him simply gave him more energy. He played for the team far into his 30s and complied with all demands made by the organization.

He did win six trophies with the club, including two League Championships (’89, ’91), two FA Cups (’79, ’93) and two League Cups (’87, ’93). David O’Leary is one of Arsenal’s all-timers.

1. Tony Adams

When your nickname is “Mr. Arsenal,” you know the people like you. Tony Adams was everything you want in a player, a leader and an all-time great.

His spirit extended beyond the field of play. He was extremely determined and gifted physically. He participated in 669 matches over a period of almost 20 years because he worked hard and was never satisfied. He symbolized success. And throughout it all, he never lost his desire for more.

Adams was the driving force behind each of these awards, winning more of them than any other man on this list. He was the pillar of manager George Graham’s defense, who referred to him as “my colossus,” and Arsene Wenger’s go-to center back, who later referred to him as a “professor of defense.”

His skills extended beyond just defense. In his time with Arsenal, he scored 48 goals total. Adams frequently charged forward in attack and contributed to numerous Arsenal goals.

He was voted the third best player in Arsenal history by supporters on the club’s website, and his skills, focus, and leadership cannot be emphasized.

He led one of Arsenal’s most illustrious periods of football, and his influence was and continues to be enormous.
