However, the Blues’ assistant coach will be in charge of the team this weekend in the west London derby against Fulham.
The ‘brains’ behind most of Chelsea’s recent success, including the 2021 Champions League triumph, is widely believed to be Barry, who was appointed as part of Frank Lampard’s backroom squad before last season. The 36-year-old is often credited with making Chelsea a Premier League powerhouse from set pieces. Tuchel has publicly stated that the former Wigan Athletic manager was the driving force behind his former team’s success from both attacking and defensive set pieces. The German midfielder stressed the importance of a balanced scoring attack and high performance from a variety of individuals in the Chelsea program back in January.
