The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on commissions and statutory boards in the state to strengthen their collaboration for the implementation of merit-based human resource management processes and policies.

According to a statement on Monday, the governor made this call during the 2022 summit of statutory commissions/boards in Lagos State Public Service held at Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folasade Jaji, charged the commissions and boards to proffer long-lasting solutions in human capital management.

He said, “It is imperative to quickly put into proper perspective the strategic roles of our service commissions; which are largely derived from the constitution and enabling laws centred mainly on engaging and managing the right number of competent and skilled public servants.

“The central thrust of their functions and responsibilities is to emplace a merit-based and structured human resource management process to support and power the activities of government through the initiation and implementation of policies, programmes, projects, and plans.

“I urge members of the various commissions and statutory boards to proffer long-lasting solutions to mitigate premature personnel attrition by coming up with functional human resource policies and a new model of human capital management.”

The Chairman of Lagos Civil Service Commission, Mr Olubunmi Fabamwo, said, “I promise that the CSC will continue to engage and seek better ways for establishment matters, recruitment of competent, capable and fit-for-purpose personnel.”
