In a brazen attack early Sunday morning, bandits struck a police checkpoint in Zamfara State, leaving one officer dead and several others injured.
Reports indicate that the assailants, riding in a convoy of over 40 motorcycles, descended upon the checkpoint at Tazame village, situated just a stone’s throw away from Kwatarkwashi, a town adjacent to the state capital, Gusau.
Eyewitnesses recount a harrowing scene as the bandits engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the outnumbered police personnel stationed at the checkpoint. Despite their valiant efforts, the officers were overpowered, forcing them to flee for their lives as the assailants ransacked the area, setting fire to any valuables in their path.
Thankfully, some officers managed to escape the onslaught, averting what could have been an even graver tragedy.
