Ikeja Electric begins system upgrade, blocks customers from using meters

by Ebor Cletus Ralph Jr

Starting on Friday, Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) will begin a system update.

Customers would use their pre-paid metres during the upgrade, which would start on July 15 and terminate on July 17, according to a statement released by the firm on Thursday.
Customers on IKEDC’s network were asked to purchase electricity or complete their tasks prior to the deadline.

The statement read: “Collection of meter data will be unavailable (meter reading, energy consumption, etc.) and all payment channels will be unavailable throughout the period of system upgrade.

Access to customer account information (balance, address, vending information, etc.) and data requirements for IE Mobile App functionality are additional services that will be impacted during the cutover.

“Customers’ ability to perform the listed functions on our platforms may be impeded during this period of upgrade. However, our engineers will endeavour to complete the upgrade within the scheduled time, as well as minimize the impact on customer experience.”

The electrical distribution firm upgraded its system following four national blackouts in the previous six months.

IKEDC promised that the maintenance work will enhance the infrastructure for billing and vending, among other linked platforms.
