Crisis Rocks Sowore’s AAC, as Party Disowns Presidential Candidate Ahead of 2023, Gives Reason

The African Action Congress (AAC) has disowned human rights activist Omoyele Sowore as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 elections.

The national chairman of the party, Dr Leonard Nzenwa, made this known in a statement he signed and made available to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, September 7, Vanguard reported .

Nzenwa also alleged that Sowore was hoodwinking the public and collecting money from unsuspecting victims.

He accused the human rights activist of working with some forces within and outside the party with the aim to cause disarray.

The AAC chairman claimed the party’s presidential candidate has been expelled, adding that nobody would want to relate with him.

Nzenwa said the party has established that the court judgement which Sowore claimed gave him victory “was a big lie.”

He said the AAC is in court to legitimately counter Sowore and ensure he is removed as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

The ACC chairman said: “The second thing we did was to counter him and his troops legitimately in court which is still ongoing, and they are literally scampering for safety now!

“Following from above we now directed effort at ensuring that his name was removed as our great party’s presidential candidate, this we also achieved.

“Our next push is to ensure that his name is delisted as our great party’s National Chairman and transmit all our candidates that emerged from our nationwide primaries. We are not relenting on this end.”

Nzenwa directed “all leaders and state chairmen of the party to be on high alert as they can be called upon at any time”.

Earlier, a faction of the African Action Congress warned that the 2019 presidential candidate of the party, Omoyele Sowore, was not its candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

This was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Sylvester Cletus, on Wednesday, which noted that Sowore was expelled from the party in 2019.

The party stated that it needed to clear the air regarding Sowore’s candidacy following purported claims that he was the AAC candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

Cletus stated that Sowore was removed for violating the party’s constitution, and misappropriation of funds, amongst other offences, adding that he was ineligible to contest the Presidency under the party.

“The African Action Congress wishes to notify the general public that Mr Omoyele Sowore was expelled on August 9, 2019, at the party’s National Convention held in Owerri, Imo State.

He was first suspended from the party in May 2019 and his suspension was upheld by a Court of Competent Jurisdiction in Nigeria.

“The importance of this is that legally, Omoyele Sowore is not a member of our party, the African Action Congress, AAC and democratically, his membership right has been withdrawn,” the statement read in part.

Cletus warned the public to be wary of being scammed by the publisher of the online newspaper, Sahara Reporters, in support of a false assumption of contesting for the Presidency under the AAC.
