Police and Military Joint Operation Rescues 16 Kidnapped Travellers in Kogi State

A coordinated effort between police and military forces has successfully liberated 16 passengers who were abducted from two vehicles in Kogi State.

The abduction occurred on Sunday, February 25, 2024, along the Ette-Enugu-Ezike road while the victims were traveling.

SP William Aya, spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, officially confirmed the successful rescue in a statement released on Monday in Lokoja.

Aya disclosed that among the rescued individuals were 11 passengers from a Peace Mass Transit Bus and five occupants of a Sienna Bus. These innocent travelers were forcibly taken into nearby bushlands by the assailants.

“The Joint Kogi Police and Military team from Enugu State swiftly responded, tracking down and rescuing all the victims unharmed from the dense undergrowth. Active efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served,” stated Aya.

In response, Commissioner of Police for Kogi Command, Bethrand Onuoha, lauded the collaborative security efforts of the joint team.

Onuoha reiterated the Command’s steadfast commitment to combating criminal activities within the state, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between law enforcement and citizens to safeguard lives and property.

The successful operation serves as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of security forces in combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents and travelers in Kogi State.
