Reports: Premier League, EFL Fixtures Postponed This Weekend Following Death Of Queen Elizabeth II

[ad_1]

All Premier League, EFL, and women’s football games scheduled for this weekend have been postponed in light of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s demise. The Queen’s historic 70-year reign as monarch of Great Britain came to an end on Thursday afternoon when she passed away peacefully at Balmoral at the age of 96.

The decision was left up to the governing bodies after official government counsel approved the sports schedule for this weekend to go forward as planned. But following discussions this morning between the Premier League, EFL, and FA, it has now been decided to cancel the full slate for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

With the season being forced to end in the winter due to the World Cup in Qatar, the decision to cancel this weekend’s round of games adds to an already busy fixture calendar. The timing of the Queen’s state funeral may also affect whether or not the games are played next weekend.

This weekend’s Premier League schedule included matches between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur as well as the Fulham vs. Chelsea West London rivalry, which will mark Graham Potter’s first game in command of the Blues.
