What Fayose Said About Atiku-Wike Rift That Got Southerners Annoyed

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose on Friday has said that the rift between the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was because of external forces.

The PDP is currently embattled following the post presidential election that saw Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the party’s running mate for the presidential election over poor handling. Since then, a faction of the Rivers State Governor has called for the resignation of the national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

When the fight just got started between Ayu and Wike over Ayu’s resignation as the party’s national chairman, Fayose was among the ones that stood their ground that Ayu has to resign as the party’s chairman following the fact that the party’s presidential candidate and the national chairman can’t come from the same zone.

Atiku and Wike had met twice in the last two months in a bid to resolve their differences ahead of the 2023 presidential election. Fayose while he was commissioning a community school in River State said: “For me, I want to believe his Excellency Atiku Abubakar is not against you but let me say this quickly: A lot of people surrounding the throne are enemies of the throne, and a lot of people surrounding the throne have an issue to grind with somebody or some issues with somebody and they take it to where they are not supposed to take it.”

He further added that ” I was there the second day after the election when our candidate, the former Vice President, visited the house, the residence of Governor Wike and we had mutual conversations. We were all happy. Everything was in place to move forward. I spoke at that meeting but we don’t want to aggravate this situation.”

Fayose’s U-turn on the Wike- Ayu’s rift has gotten a whole lot of Southerners unhappy in the party and also the citizens of the country.
