REPORTS: Man United decided against appointing Graham Potter due to lack of UCL experience

[ad_1]

Due to his lack of Champions League experience, The Red Devils reportedly decided that New Blues head coach Graham Potter was not a suitable match for the Old Trafford managerial role.

After Ex-BVB & PSG Boss, Thomas Tuchel was fired on Wednesday morning after managing the Former European Champions for 100 games, the English tactician was officially announced as the club’s permanent manager.

After retiring as a player, Potter joined Ostersunds, Swansea City, and Brighton & Hove Albion before making a stunning rise through the management ranks to take over the London based outfit.

The 47-year-old has committed to the West Londoners for a period of five years, but the Blues weren’t the only Big Six team to express interest in him in recent years.

Ralf Rangnick’s exit from his position as manager at the end of the season led to speculation that Manchester United might choose Potter as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term replacement.

As per reports from the Mail, the Manchester based outfit opted against signing Potter because he lacked Champions League experience on his résumé.

During the 17/18 campaign, the Ex-Seagulls Boss led Ostersunds to the UEFA Europa League group stage, where they advanced into the knockout phase from a group that had Zorya Luhansk, Hertha Berlin, and Spanish outfit, Athletic Bilbao.

The Swedish team defeated Arsenal in the second leg of their round of 32 match with a thrilling 2-1 victory at the Emirates, although they were eliminated after an earlier 3-0 home loss.

The report adds that Erik ten Hag won the position over Potter despite being on the Old Trafford shortlist of contenders because of his past accomplishments on the European level.

The Dutch tactician guided Ajax to the semi-finals of the 2018–19 UCL, holding German Giants, Bayern Munich to two draws in the group stage before defeating Juventus & Real Madrid.
