Abandoned Infant Discovered at Entrance of Ekiti Government House

A heart-wrenching discovery unfolded at the entrance of the Government House in Ado-Ekiti, as an abandoned baby was found wrapped in cloth. The infant’s cries, echoing through the Fajuyi area, drew the attention of a Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) official, who stumbled upon the helpless child around 8 pm on Sunday, March 10.

Eyewitnesses recounted the moment of shock and concern as they followed the sound of the baby’s cries. Uncertain at first, they cautiously approached the source, eventually uncovering the abandoned infant.

Commandant Mathew Okotie of the Peace Corps, Ekiti Command, confirmed the distressing incident. A PCN officer discovered the abandoned baby along Bank Road in Fajuyi, Ado-Ekiti. Following swift action, the infant was promptly taken to the police headquarters and later transferred to the police clinic for immediate medical attention.

Concern for the baby’s welfare led to its referral to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for further medical care and documentation. The community’s collective effort underscores the importance of swift action in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.
