The list of candidates for state House of Assembly and gubernatorial positions in the general elections of 2023 has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Festus Okoye, National Commissioner of INEC and Chairman of the Voter Education Committee, released a statement on Wednesday confirming the situation.
He claimed that the list contains the names of candidates who were legitimately nominated by their parties following the conclusion of primaries and the designated times for candidate withdrawal and substitution.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Delta State, Ovie Omo-Agege, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Sheriff Oborevwori, speaker of the state House of Assembly, were among the candidates the commission listed (PDP).

Others are Babajide Sanwo-Olu (APC, Lagos), Olajide Adeniran (PDP, Lagos), Seyi Makinde (PDP, Oyo), Dapo Abiodun (APC, Lagos) and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (APC, Kwara).

However, the commission did not list any candidate for the PDP in Ogun State.

This was in response to Justice O.O. Oguntoyinbo’s decision of the Federal High Court in Abeokuta ordering the party to hold a new primary in the state within 14 days.
When making a decision about an application submitted by three state candidates for governor, the court announced the decision.

The results of the May 25 primary, which resulted in Ladi Adebutu as the PDP governorship candidate in the state, are being contested by the trio of Taiwo Olabode Idris, Kehinde Akala, and Alhaji Ayinde Monsuri.

Additionally, the commission did not include any APC candidates for Akwa Ibom State.
Despite winning the state’s May 27 election, Akpan Udofia, who switched from the PDP to the APC earlier this year, had his nomination rejected by INEC because its personnel failed to oversee the process.

“In all, the 28 governorship elections that are scheduled to take place in 2023 will have 837 candidates and their running mates, according to a statement by the 18 major parties. There are 10,231 candidates running for 993 State Assembly seats in the upcoming elections.
